Week 6: The End

Well here we are at the end of another summer and as always it has flown by. The week started with the last 2 days of excavating. I merely had to bring my extension down to level and then scrape the bottom of the trench (too bad it rained on Monday making that a little harder). I said this earlier it has been weird weather here this summer. On Wednesday we did the last bit of cleaning up and then had a visit from the soprintendenza of Tuscany. They stopped by for a minute and then moved on, but there was a lot of hype building up to it. Also on Wednesday I got to take elevations of the major features in the trenches, not as bad as last year but I did have flashbacks to the work I did at the end of 2012 mapping a slope. On Wednesday and Thursday I got up at 5:15 to help Ryan and Nathan take ariel photographs of the trench. Then after photos on Thursday we back-filled the trenches. It was one of the quicker back fill days I have been a part of. We finished at noon which was great. Afterwards we headed down the hill to eat lunch (left over braised pork pasta) and then back to the mag to finish our trench books. It took the rest of today to finish but I am proud to say that I have finished all the documentation for CA 78 this year. Now I am going to shower and get ready for staff dinner tonight.
